Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NC State Veterinary Hospital is an integrated health care center for companion, equine and farm animals. Essential Job Duties: This position is designed primarily to provide consistently excellent, innovative, and diligent clinical service and teaching. Constituencies served include NC State's clients, patients, referring veterinarians, students, and house officers. Specific duties include: Serving as a supervising clinician within a busy referral service that sees challenging referral cases and receives transfers from an active Emergency service. Overseeing interns and residents, engaging students in case management, evaluating students and house officers, leading and participating in daily and weekly case rounds, journal club, and writing club, performing in house consultations, and responding to email and phone consultations and patient follow-up calls from referring veterinarians. Participating in various courses, in addition to the student clinical rotations, particularly as related to clinical-reasoning, techniques and special procedures, and areas of interest.

Minimum Education/Experience: Must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine. Must be a Diplomate of the American College of Internal Medicine with a specialty in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Candidates with these credentials combined with a relevant PhD will be given preference.

Department Required Skills: * Considerable experience in small animal internal medicine and prior experience in clinical or laboratory research and teaching. * Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. * Strong commitment to excellence in teaching is expected. * Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds on an occasional basis. * Interest in respiratory medicine.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Candidates with the required education and experience as noted above combined with a relevant PhD will be given preference.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: Eligibility for veterinary licensure (or faculty certificate) in the State of North Carolina is required. Must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) with a specialty in Small Animal Internal Medicine.
