Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required. A degree in special education, education, vocational rehabilitation, or social sciences is preferable or relevant experience focused on providing services or technical experience to persons with disabilities, their families, and professionals.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Well-qualified applicants will have the following experiences:

At least 2 years' experience in one of the following areas: Providing direct services to children, youth and/or young adults with disabilities or providing training, technical assistance, coaching, and/or mentoring to professionals and paraprofessionals who provide educational and community service to children, youth and young adults with disabilities and their families.

Experience implementing community conversations and knowledge of other community organizing strategies.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and competence with basic computer software applications (e.g. PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).

Experience with developing products for public dissemination across multiple audiences (e.g. fliers, brochures, booklets, etc.).

Position Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of only 14 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical bio- manufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position will be a staff member of the Waisman Center, University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), which conducts a wide range of pre-service training, outreach programs, and services that annually reach over 300 university students, approximately 8,000 professional and paraprofessional providers, and 6,000 individuals with or at risk for developmental disabilities and their families. The UCEDD is one of 67 such University Centers for Excellence in the nation and is a member of the national Association of University Centers on Disability.

The individual in this position will work within the Waisman Center Public Policy and Systems Change Unit of the UCEDD to carry out training, technical assistance, and outreach activities that lead to better employment, educational, and social outcomes for youth with disabilities and their families. This includes supervising a team of family advocates, who support different regions across the State of Wisconsin, supporting their professional development needs, and ensuring completion of project deliverables.

Additional Information:

- Applicant must be available for statewide travel frequently. Some evening hours and weekends are required. A valid driver's license that meets UW Risk Management Standards is required, or the incumbent must provide his/her own transportation to sites.
- This position will be located within the offices of the Waisman Center, which is located at 1500 Highland Ave, Madison, WI.
- Must complete HIPAA training and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter within 5 days of notification.
- Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.
