The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia, seeks an Assistant Director of Budget and Finance to: deliver budget management and financial reporting support; basic human resources transaction support for staff and student employee;, provides research administration support to faculty and liaisons with central research administration support provider; and manages critical fiscal/transaction support. The incumbent will assist the Director of Budget and Finance with preparation of the annual school budget proposal, and is responsible for producing, reviewing, and distributing budget/financial reports to area managers. In addition, the incumbent is the sole Batten School liaison between Batten School faculty members and central/contracted research administration support service providers. This position has primary responsibility for school procurement and account reconciliations and serves as the school's HR liaison, providing front line support to staff and acts as a liaison to central HR.
A Bachelor's degree is required, as is up to four years of experience performing fiscal and accounting related work. More than five years in accounting, human resources, or relevant work experience in a University setting is preferred. A successful candidate is required to have a working knowledge of financial policies and procedures, procurement policies and procedures, and knowledge of human resources policies, procedures, and practices, and budget planning and financial reporting. Effective communication, administrative, and interpersonal skills is required, as is attention to detail. Experience in an academic setting is desirable and familiarity with U.Va.'s effort reporting, financial policies and procedures, procurement policies and procedures, knowledge of existing University Human Resources systems and processes and the University's cashiering requirements and procedures. Experience with Excel and Oracle is required, while knowledge of Oracle Financials including: General Ledger, Labor Distribution, and Purchasing, University Business Intelligence, financial reporting tool/software is highly desirable. A basic understanding of cloud-based network architecture is also preferred.
