I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University Division of External Relations is seeking a Media Relations Associate. The Media Relations Associate plays a critical role in preparing and distributing daily news clips and analytics to senior university leadership. The Media Relations Associate will also take the lead in developing relationships with broadcast bookers and pitching university experts for broadcast interviews. This position will report to the Director of Media Relations.

Responsibilities include:
Exercise independent judgement to oversee daily news clips and analytics.

Research and write public relations materials.

Manages meetings and interviews with members of the media and media relations team.

Writes press releases, media advisories, talking points, statements, briefing materials and research and builds media lists.

Manages George Washington University's media relations' social media accounts and updates online content.

Represents the university at special events as the media relations contact.

The Media Relations Associate is expected to be passionate while exercising independent judgment of media content.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Spanish-speaking, television or radio, event logistics experience
