Position Title: Assistant Director

Office of Research Grants and Sponsored Programs


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Reporting to Executive Director, the Assistant Director performs an array of assistance and administrative support activities in support of the office. The Assistant Director is responsible for keeping track of incoming requests for grants submissions; developing and interpreting sponsored program’s policies and procedures; preparing and updating budget reports; understanding and preparing budget for grants; keeping track of possible funding opportunities; providing pre and post award assistance; keeping track of funding opportunities; providing advice on policies, procedures, and laws to ensure that program operations meet federal requirements and supporting the sponsored program office with additional duties, as required for smooth functioning of the office. He/she will keeps track of proposal submission deadlines to the agencies and ensure that grant proposals are submitted on time. The Assistant Director will periodically analyze financial reports and make recommendations for approval to the ED-ORGSP, classify and maintain an electronic or physical filing system of all relevant information related to financial, administrative, and legal aspects of sponsored projects; and support ED-ORGSP with training and workshop materials in the areas of grants, contracts, and other sponsored program management activities for faculty and staff.  He/she will generate and reconcile Time/Effort Reports; ensure the completeness of projects financial reports; and perform other duties within the scope of this position, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A minimum of a Master’s degree in Science, Business Administration, and/or grants administration, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of 4 years of grant related experience is required.  Considerable knowledge of sponsored programs, grants management, accounting and business management, budget preparation and procedures, departmental administration, and laws, legal codes, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules required. Demonstrated ability to interpret policies and procedures; read and interpret contracts; communicate effectively orally and in writing; provide leadership to PIs/PDs; prepare budgets; and monitor fiscal actions, is required.  Working knowledge of grants management database or similar database, word processing, and spreadsheet software preferred.  Previous experience working as a Grants Administrator in a sponsored research or administrative program strongly preferred. Ability to work independently under minimum supervision is required.
