Paediatric Gastroenterologist (Expertise in Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
A full-time permanent faculty position is available effective March 1, 2019 in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition for a clinician investigator at the assistant professor level with specific interest and expertise in paediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), 555 University Avenue, Toronto, ON. SickKids is an academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children, affiliated with the University of Toronto.
The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition comprises 15 highly collegial faculty who provide clinical programs that cover the breadth of the subspecialty and who maintain a high volume and high impact research output.
The successful candidate must have completed training in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition certified by the RCPSC, or equivalent. Expertise in paediatric IBD is required and a period of advanced training in paediatric IBD preferred. Responsibilities will include providing high quality in-patient and out-patient care for children with gastrointestinal, liver and nutritional disorders, children requiring liver transplantation, and the provision of gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures, in a tertiary/quaternary care environment. The successful applicant will become an integral part of the IBD clinical program and of the SickKids IBD Centre, with the majority of their clinical practice focused on the care of children with IBD.
The successful candidate must have an excellent training record in research related to paediatric IBD, have a postgraduate research degree, and show strong potential to successfully develop their own independent research program. An Associate Scientist position in the SickKids Research Institute will be sought and approximately 50% of time will be protected for research.
The successful candidate will be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary ($210,000-$240,000) per annum will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a benefits package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, and an academic allowance and a relocation package.
All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English, and must be certified or eligible for certification in Paediatrics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or have comparable qualifications.
