Grants Specialist / Senior Grants Specialist

Under the limited direction of the Grants Manager, the Grants Specialist/Sr. Grants Specialist works in a fast-paced and highly collaborative working environment and manages an expanding portfolio of contracts and grants within the College of Health Sciences (CHS), with direct oversight of all aspects of fiscal administration for all pre- and post-award activities for the faculty. A complex and rapidly changing teaching, research, and clinical environment that includes faculty and professionals, CHS has annual grant expenditures of approximately $22 million, a figure that is growing annually.

Pre-Award

Assist faculty members and trainees in the development, preparation, and submission of grant proposals including budget preparation, ensuring that correct cost rates are applied and all sponsor and University guidelines and timetables are met.  Coordinate proposal activities between multiple PIs, departments and/or universities, as required.  Utilize various online proposal submission systems, i.e. PeopleSoft, Cayuse, Proposal Central, etc. to create and route proposals.

Build and foster relationships with other units, faculty, and collaborating institutions. Serve as liaison for faculty and the University Research Office.  Work collaboratively with faculty to keep Other Support current.  Assist faculty members with the preparation and submission of administrative supplements, and Just-in-Time requirements.

Post-Award

Provide financial oversight for grant and contracts within assigned portfolio to include monthly project reconciliation, investigating and resolving discrepancies, interpreting university or sponsor regulations in reviewing expenditures and preparing financial reports and budget projections for presentation to faculty.  Prepare subrecipient purchase orders and subsequent amendments; journal entries; budget revisions; consultant disclosures; and other forms.
