Minimum Education/Experience: A master's degree from an accredited college or university. Five (5) years of varied experiences in a comprehensive Office for Disability Support Services. Demonstrated knowledge, ability and experience working with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as they apply to reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities. Knowledge and ability to work with the diverse area of students with disabilities (SWD) and the prescription of services to meet their learning needs and/or accommodations required under the law.

Job Duties: Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice Chancellor Dean of Students, the Director provides leadership for the management, development and continuous improvement of comprehensive disabled student retention and graduation support services, including disability related accommodations and adaptive technology (AT) as mandated by federal law, state regulations and additional guidelines established by the Office of Civil Rights. The Director is frequently called upon to provide support and guidance on issues regarding students with disabilities in collaboration with Academic Affairs administration and faculty, the University Registrar, Admissions and Recruitment, University General Counsel and Information Technology Services (ITS). Specific Duties: Responsible for the administration and leadership of Access and Disability Services (ADS). Oversight of the day to day operation of the unit including: Eligibility of students for disability status under the ADAA Analysis of reasonable accommodation as it relates to the academic requirements of the institution and degree programs Review of requests for non-academic accommodations including housing, transit, parking and student activities Orientation of students to the procedures in place to activate accommodations Direct delivery of accommodations including alternate formats, sign language interpreters, readers, extended time and distraction limited environment for testing Adherence to federal guidelines pertaining to HIPPA, FERPA and rules of confidentiality Consultations with faculty to facilitate the accommodation of students Consultations with prospective students and their families regarding disability Support Services at East Carolina University Close monitoring of the budget with vigilance to expenses related to sign language interpreting, closed captioning and video remote interpreting services Oversees the provision of legally mandated accommodations and specialized instructional programs for students with disabilities. Hires, supervises and evaluates departmental staff. Plays a lead role in raising awareness and educating the University community about serving students with disabilities and related institutional services. Provides administrative direction for the provision of access, accommodations and instructional programs for students with disabilities. Utilizes data and other measures to implement changes and improvements as needed. Develops and modifies procedures, and makes policy recommendations to facilitate the delivery of reasonable accommodations and instructional support. Makes personnel and staffing recommendations. Other duties as assigned.
