Chief of Staff

Position Summary

The Chief of Staff (Ast/Assoc/Full Professor Fixed Term) in the office of the dean of the College of Human Medicine serves as senior advisor and counselor to the dean and collaborates with the executive team to plan, direct, implement and monitor the strategic agenda of the college in alignment with the university and the faculty group practice (MSU HealthTeam).  As a senior leader, the Chief will interact and partner with executive leadership and experts including those from finance, legal, human resources, information systems and clinical services, as well as a wide range of external public and private partners on a diverse range of strategic, operational, political and organizational issues to facilitate cross-functional and integrative projects that support the missions and priorities of the college.  The Chief ensures that the Dean is informed in a timely manner of all critical issues that require his attention and decision-making; ensures complete and accurate information, as well as the through analysis of options; provides executive oversight of staff involved in the strategic prioritization of the dean’s time; prepares and facilitate communication to and from the dean’s office and acts as the dean’s spokesperson to external constituents.  The Chief will also oversee the administrative, operational and financial affairs of the office of the dean. 

Required Degree

Doctorate

Minimum Requirements

Doctorate degree in health care administration, business administration or a related field; experience in project management, business development, communications and marketing. The ideal candidate will also have experience leading and managing a high-performing team of executives and professionals; the ability to work collaboratively across functions and departments and with physicians, system leadership and hospital leadership teams; exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to the ideals of diversity and inclusion.
