LTE Manufacturing Career Development/Career Pathways Coach

Position Summary:

Nicolet Area Technical College seeks an individual to fill a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position, serving as a Manufacturing Career Development/Career Pathways Coach.  The individual selected will assist in developing a comprehensive student recruitment, retention, and placement plan in the advanced manufacturing programs at Nicolet College.  This will also include educating high school students about the numerous career pathways in the manufacturing sector. This individual will strengthen relationships with district manufacturers and help coach students toward suitable jobs with local employers.

This full-time, hourly position is funded by a grant through June 30, 2019.  The individual will be based at the Rhinelander Campus and will travel to other locations, with variable hours that may include activities during the day, evening, or on weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the College community, manufacturing employers, economic development corporations, and job placement center staff.
  • Develop strategies to learn about employers’ occupational needs, requirements, hiring practices, and job openings.
  • Identify customized training needs of employers and help in the development and validation of current and new career pathways credentials.
  • Work collaboratively with the workforce development and student success teams.
  • Develop strategies and events to connect individuals to careers in manufacturing, such as job fairs and employer summits.
  • Work with all areas of the College to plan, coordinate, and implement events and activities that are designed to enhance enrollment in manufacturing related careers.
  • Identify and track students eligible for tuition assistance through grants, federal, and state funding sources.  
  • Work with prospective students and families to explain admissions requirements and enrollment procedures, explore career opportunities, provide campus resource materials, and identify other College resources.
  • Use an intrusive advising model to connect students in manufacturing-related careers with student services, technical and general education faculty, and Academic Success.
  • Coach students to identify their learning needs and learning styles in order to develop study skills.
  • Serve as an advocate for at-risk students as they move through critical course milestones.
  • Refer students to student support services across Nicolet College based upon assessed need.
  • Work effectively in a team-based, collaborative environment.
  • Maintain knowledge of current programs, services, and policies of Nicolet College, the Wisconsin Technical College System, and career trends in manufacturing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various manufacturing industries including paper mills, printing industries, or structural steel fabrication.
  • Understanding of higher education operations including admissions, student recruitment, and student success services.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with district high schools, students, and technical education teachers.
  • Ability to work with teams to plan and coordinate activities and implement comprehensive programs.
  • Understanding of diversity and inclusion issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through attentive listening and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective use of student management software system and computer applications.
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.

  • The employee must demonstrate strong attention to detail, and must be able to perform complex tasks without error.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to normal office conditions and usual office equipment such as telephone, personal computer, printers/copiers, reports and files.
  • The employee will be constantly required to sit, talk, hear, and type/write.
  • The employee will be frequently required to stand, walk, touch/handle/grasp (using hands and fingers), and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally bend or squat and lift and/or push up to 10 pounds of general office items.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, far, and field of vision.
  • This position requires regular and punctual employee presence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in manufacturing related career preferred.  Occupational experience may substitute for education.
  • Significant experience in manufacturing or workforce development required.
  • Successful experience in post-secondary setting or working with individuals to enter a post‑secondary setting preferred.

Compensation:

The typical starting pay range is $20.39 to $22.17 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Includes a comprehensive benefits package.
