Job description

Duties: The Department Graduate Coordinator is responsible for coordinating 165 graduate students in SAS's Departments of Philosophy, Classical Studies, Religious Studies, HSSC, Ancient Studies through the graduate program and all its intricate processes. The coordinator handles the general graduate office administration for the departments and serves as the primary contact for graduate students, as well as providing administrative support to the Graduate Chairs of Six departments. Also is responsible for developing and maintaining communications, fielding inquiries, and guiding both students and faculty through a variety of University policies, resources, and procedures. Handles all graduate student activity coordination from application to graduation and provides guidance to students and support to faculty as related to academic and curriculum planning. Acts as departmental point person to budget and finance areas within SAS about graduate funding expenses. Working in conjunction with the departments' Business Office. In addition, processes international Visas as required for students and acts as liaison between SAS Graduate Division and the 5 departments.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree and 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 3 to 5 years of experience are strongly preferred.

Experience providing administrative support in an academic environment required. Ideal candidate must possess strong organizational skills, strong written and oral communications skills, and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Must have a professional demeanor with the ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse audience. Must be a team player and have excellent collaboration skills.

Ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of scholarly resources across the University that are available for both students and department faculty. Financial experience, event planning experience, and an understanding of academic and curriculum planning are preferred. Familiarity with Penn's financial application strongly encouraged. Experience with University graduate programs and policies strongly encouraged.
