Position Status: Full-Time

Position Summary:
Office of Financial Aid. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Financial Literacy and Default Prevention, the Financial Literacy Counselor counsels students on personal financial issues, including budget planning, credit management and debt reduction.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the research, design, and implementation of best practices for managing student loan borrowing default and delinquency.
  • Provides comprehensive financial literacy counseling for students.
  • Provides daily outreach for students.
  • Monitors the progress of the program, trends, and developments in financial literacy to identify best practices to enhance the University's program and minimize financial issues impacting retention.
  • Assists students with development of personal budget/financial planning to reduce, eliminate, and avoid debt and to achieve solvency and stability.
  • Works on various on-going projects for loan portfolio reviews.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.

    Preferred Education:

    Preferred Experience::
    Three or more years of experience in a post-secondary educational institution, particularly in financial aid, students’ accounts or student services office; three or more years of experience with financial literacy strategies (budgeting, credit reporting, lending, loan repayment).

    Salary Range: $32,000 - $37,000
