The Diagnostic Imaging service provides clinical support to the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and the Hospital for Large Animals. The service also supports the teaching mission of the Department of Clinical Sciences. Modalities covered by the diagnostic imaging service include small animal and large animal radiology, SA ultrasound, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine.

The Veterinary Technician I – Radiology works as part of an integrated clinical care team to provide high quality diagnostic imaging services to inpatient, outpatient, surgical and emergency patients in both the Small and Large Animal Hospitals. In addition, the Veterinary Technician supervises and instructs veterinary students on each rotation.


Basic Requirements:

Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology or a high school diploma (or the equivalent) with at least three years of related experience. Excellent small animal handling and restraint skills. Large animal and exotic animal handling skills are also highly desirable. Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy, veterinary pharmacology (including basic drug dose calculations) and patient monitoring. Ability to effectively work as a member of a diverse team of clinical and administrative professionals. Incumbents must be self-motivated, flexible, organized and cooperative with a strong interest and effort directed towards the success of the entire team. Knowledge of Diagnostic Imaging in a veterinary setting, particularly small animal radiography and ultrasound. A desire to teach. This includes sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues throughout the Small Animal Hospital as well as students. Teaching also requires a commitment to ongoing professional development such as participation in Continuing Education and maintenance of credentials and certifications. Ability to collaborate with colleagues throughout the Small Animal Hospitals to prioritize multiple responsibilities for several patients within a busy clinical setting. Basic computer skills including the ability to learn the electronic medical record system. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology preferred or four or more years of clinical experience preferred. CVT. Exotic animal handling skills desirable.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

The schedule may include providing University and calendar holiday coverage on a rotating basis as well as evening, night, weekend and/or on call coverage. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to insure that adequate patient care is provided without interruption or exception. This position is considered essential and is therefore required to report to work as scheduled during emergency closings.
