KSU Benefits Specialists serve the campus and retiree populations with customer service and support for all benefits related concerns. They administer the leave of absence program which includes advising employees of their options for Family Medical Leave, short and long term disability benefits, donated sick leave, and subsequently managing the necessary payroll system and vendor processes. Benefits Specialists work to educate employees about benefits eligibility, plan provisions and options, continuation of coverage, and premium costs. They assist employees and retirees with resolution of health and wellness claim concerns and serve as liaisons with plan vendors. Benefits Specialists provide counseling sessions regarding retirement eligibility and benefits options after retirement and then facilitate the HR, payroll, and benefits aspects of the employees transition into retirement. Additionally, they administer and monitor the procedures surrounding the Tuition Assistance Program, Workers Compensation, and benefit premium billings. The Benefits Specialists work as a team with the Benefits Manager to develop communications about benefit plan changes, plan and host an annual Benefits Fair, facilitate benefits open enrollment, and serve as a general resource for HR, University System of Georgia, and institutional policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*:

  1. Administer the leave of absence program;
  2. Advise employees of their options for Family Medical Leave, short and long term disability benefits and donated sick leave;
  3. Educate employees about benefits eligibility, plan provisions and options, continuation of coverage, and premium costs;
  4. Assist employees and retirees with resolution of health and wellness claim concerns and serve as liaisons with plan vendors;
  5. Provide counseling sessions regarding retirement eligibility and benefits options after retirement;
  6. Administer and monitor the procedures surrounding the Tuition Assistance Program;
  7. Administer and monitor procedures for the Workers Compensation;
  8. Administer and assist with benefit premium billings and reconciliations;
  9. Assist in planning, organizing and conducting the annual Benefits Fair
  10. Assist in planning, organizing and conducting the annual open enrollment process
  11. Serve as a general resource for HR, University System of Georgia, and institutional policies for benefits related matters;
  12. Assist with the development of benefits and wellness related procedures

Minimum requirements: Undergraduate degree and 2 years of related experience in Human Resources OR High School diploma and 4 years related HR experience

Preferred requirements: Bachelor degree highly desired. Experience with benefit plan administration, general knowledge of industry specific practices and federal regulations desired. Knowledge of University System of GA benefit plans a plus. Successful candidates should be able to show a work history which demonstrates their ability to be organized, have follow through, communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, appropriately manage confidential information, and use discretion.
