Position Status: Administrative Non-Exempt Positions

Basic Function:
The vision of the Foisie Innovation Studio (FIS) Makerspace is to create an open, welcoming, and engaging student-driven space where students of all skill levels and disciplines can create, develop and implement their ideas according to both their project needs and desire for innovative exploration.
The FIS Makerspace Technician will manage, maintain, and operate the various machines in the Makerspace. This position is responsible for maintaining adequate throughput for manufacturing orders to the Makerspace machines, as well as ensuring proper tracking of order status and costs. The FIS Makerspace Technician will also be responsible for establishing training protocols for students working the lab, and oversee the student workers in the Makerspace lab.
Additional responsibilities may include reaching out to students and researchers who have questions regarding manufacturability of designs, and providing information regarging available manufacturing methods on campus.


  • • Operate and maintain machines in the FIS Makerspace. Keep machines clean and in good working order, while performing regular and preventative maintenance
    • Develop training protocols for and lead instruction of students in the use of lab machines
    • Assist with establishing and enforcing safety protocols for the FIS Makerspace space
    • Oversee student positions to assist in machine maintenance and operation
    • Assist with workshops and sessions regarding design for manfucaturabiliy
    • Oversee the production queue to ensure appropriate access to all machines for all students
    • Reach out to students and researchers who have questions regarding manufacturability of designs, and provide information regarging available manufacturing methods on campus
    • Manage the Rapid Prototyping Lab material and supply inventory

  • • Technical expert who is analytical, process-minded and has strong organizational skills
    • A thorough knowledge about and hands on experience with Additive Manufacturing and Digital Fabriction technologies, both operation and maintenance
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills
    • Experience working within a Higher Education environment
    • Strong eye for manufacturability of design, and ability to instruct users in appropriate manufacturing methods
