The Advancement Division at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is seeking a qualified candidate to join its Development team as a Major Gift Officer. TCNJ is a highly selective public institution located in Ewing, New Jersey - an ideal location approximately five miles from the state capital, and 60 minutes from both Philadelphia and New York City.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of current and prospective major gift donors. The Major Gift Officer will work closely with the AVP of Development & Alumni Engagement executing cultivation and solicitation strategies of individuals and corporations/foundations in his/her assigned prospect pool. She/he will be expected to prepare well-written call reports, solicitation proposals, and to take an active role in the identification of major gift prospects.

The Major Gift Officer will work in partnership with the College's Development team to develop and strengthen the College's overall pool of major gift prospects. The successful candidate will have demonstrated, successful experience in major gift in a university/college setting. He/she will be responsible for meeting an annual gift revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of approximately 175 major gift donors and prospects to advance the mission of the College and to assist donors in meeting their philanthropic goals. Extensive experience in this regard is a prerequisite, in addition to a track record that underscores an ability to identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit, and steward very important alumni and friends of the College.

A bachelor's degree is required and three to five years of progressive experience in development or equivalent experience in sales, in addition to strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and work in a collaborative fashion. Knowledge of fundraising software systems and an understanding of prospect management are preferred. Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and to travel on regional day trips with occasional overnight travel required.
