Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
Assists students, faculty, community and professional researchers with general research requests in special collections including e-mail, telephone and in-person inquiries. Assists with processing collections of multiple formats including performing and carrying out all tasks associated with archival processing standards. Assists with maintaining special collections book and periodical collections. Assists with the development of on-site and virtual exhibits and other forms of public outreach associated with special collections. Contributes to the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures. Assists with hiring, training and supervising student assistants.
N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Graduation from a four-year college or university and one year of experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or high school and five years experience in a library or archives and/or records management; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Working knowledge of archival principles and practices utilized in the processing of manuscript collections
Working knowledge of Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS)
Experience using an archival management system such as Archon, Archivist’s Toolkit, or ArchivesSpace
Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Experience providing reference services in a library
Familiarity with library automated cataloging systems
Familiarity with digital library systems such as CONTENTdm and Omeka
Familiarity with digitization equipment
Knowledge of metadata standards including Dublin Core and PREMIS
Experience with developing and installing exhibits
Familiarity with concepts in digital preservation
Familiarity with seeking grant opportunities
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Recruitment Range: $43,000 - $47,182
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 68
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
