Summary of Job Duties
The appointed individual will supervise and conduct poultry nutrition research in the laboratory within the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science and also at the Poultry Research Farm. The mission of the nutrition laboratory is to identify environmentally sustainable and economically viable feeding strategies to improve the efficiency of commercial poultry production. Principal responsibilities will include coordination of basic and applied research conducted in the laboratory and on the University Poultry Research farm.
Laboratory responsibilities will involve use and maintenance of standard analytical equipment utilized for nutrient analysis and metabolism including equipment utilized in gas chromatography, high pressure liquid chromatography, and mass spectrometry. The responsibilities will include the management of chemical and supply inventories and development and optimization of laboratory protocols. On-farm research responsibilities will include coordination of animal care and husbandry, preparation of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) animal use protocols and yearly reviews, formulate research feeds, plan and conduct poultry research trials, utilize and coordinate indirect calorimetry research, determine bird and egg composition with dual energy x-ray (DEXA), and collection of biological samples. Training and supervision of students and hourly workers in the above duties are key responsibilities. Prepare final reports with statistical analysis of collected data.

B.S. Degree in the field of Poultry or Animal Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, or Biology, plus three years of related experience, or a M.S. Degree in the field of Poultry or Animal Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, or Biology.
