Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of independent tasks related to management and maintenance of data used in clinical research or in support of analytical projects.

Work Performed:

Confer with principal investigator to develop forms or questionnaires for collection of study data. Contribute to the creation of protocols for the collection and verification of study data using the created system. Help team evaluate possible data collection tools and find solutions for their projects. Work with statisticians as needed to verify that the data is being collected in a manner that supports the analytical plan. Provide teams with best practices and regulatory insight to encourage good data provenance. Assist teams with understanding and complying with the regulatory (e.g., IRB & ISO) policies and contractual requirements for their research.

In consultation with principal investigators and study teams, develop and maintain databases to track and monitor data collection. Provide guidance on the structure of the items in the database to support reporting and analytical aims of the project. Assist with data manipulation to help prepare data for analysis and provide education on data management best practices.

Provide training and guidance to the Duke research community on the development of databases and surveys. This includes monthly REDCap classes, weekly office hours and team meetings, and other opportunities. Serve as a subject matter expert on REDCap and other electronic data capture methods, and a resource for the Clinical Data Specialist I's and Data Technicians on the data team. Assist with efforts to improve DOCR data education.

Produce reports on status of data collection. Develop methods to track research samples for quality assurance and costing purposes as appropriate. Help guide the use of tools such as Tableau

Recommend new methods for collection and documentation of data. This may include the integration of new tools like Twilio and Tableau with existing resources like REDCap or finding creative solutions for the needs of Duke researchers.

Create and maintain documentation including, but not limited to, data dictionaries, variable check files, and user rights files.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
