Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to function as a Associate Director for the office. This position will recruit and cultivate prospects, applicants, and admitted students through direct participation in a variety of activities, articulate admissions procedures and requirements to prospective students, parents and counselors, evaluate credentials and make independent decisions regarding individuals' candidacies for admission to UNCG, and positively affect admitted students' decisions to matriculate to UNCG. The incumbent will manage oversight of travel for the recruitment of first-year students; supervise first year recruiters and regional representatives; and will serve as a member of the office leadership team.

The Associate Director encourages students to apply, visit and enroll at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This is accomplished through recruitment Initiatives that include, but are not limited to, individual high school visits, attending college fairs, sponsoring special recruitment events and open house programs, sending emails, writing letters and placing phone calls to students.

The incumbent will be responsible for executing and managing a geographic recruitment territory. During recruitment travel, the Associate Director advises applicants, prospective students and administrators concerning admissions requirements and procedures.

As part of the recruitment duties, the Associate Director must be able to process information in a timely manner and consider multiple factors in determining the admissibility of an applicant.

Written and verbal communication skills must be extraordinary. The Associate Director must be prepared to speak publicly on a regular basis through campus information sessions, campus tours, campus open house programs and other public events. Audiences may be as large as 2,500 individuals.

The incumbent will always project a positive and professional image of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The Associate Director is a primary source of information about the University and is, in fact, the embodiment of the University during travel time. The incumbent must maintain a professional demeanor in recruiting environments while representing UNCG.

The Associate Director advises prospective students, applicants and their families concerning admissions policies and requirements while accentuating the positive aspects of the University's academic programs and resources. This is a complex process that includes assessing each student's situation independently and advising a course of action that is in the best interest of the student and the institution.

The incumbent will have the opportunity to counsel various classifications of students including, but not limited to traditional, nontraditional transfer and second degree. The Associate Director will continue to counsel students once a decision has been made on the admissions application. The incumbent will provide admitted students information on completing the enrollment process and serve as referral agent to help the student locate resources, on and off campus, that may be needed. The Associate Director will also counsel students who are not admissible. This counseling aims to provide the students with information on how to improve their academic record and increase their chance of admission and eventual success at the University, including the possible admission to one of the University's Co-Admissions programs with area community colleges.

Project Management: The Associate Director will serve as an academic liaison to Bryan School of Business; will provide oversight of merit scholarships and financial awards for first-year students; and will develop and maintain first-year training manual and on-boarding program. The Senior Associate Director or the Director of Admissions may assign other duties in addition to those listed above.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree, a minimum of 3 years of college admissions experience, demonstrated strategic planning experience, outstanding public speaking skills, excellent computer skills, and a valid driver's license are required for this position. The position requires the ability to make independent decisions when interpreting policy and to make research based decisions regarding the potential for success of specific recruitment initiatives. Experience related directly to the recruitment of undergraduates is required for the Associate Director role.

Preferred Qualifications

5 or more years of Admissions or Enrollment Management experience.
3 or more years of supervisory experience.
