Job description

Position Summary

The Health Care Assistant position's daily job duties include, but are not limited to: working directly with providers and patients to obtain basic treatment information, performing and assisting with routine rooming of patients and routine medical procedures, and performing clerical activities in order to assist in maintaining clinic flow; updating documentation and records; verifying insurance coverage and collecting payments.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests and obtaining vital signs; experience with electronic health record systems and patient scheduling systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a certified medical assistant with current certification, which must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a surgical medical office setting; knowledge of basic surgery procedures.

Work Hours

Work hours are typically 8 am- 5 pm, but can vary as necessary to accommodate clinic hours.

Summary of Health Risks

Exposure to human blood, serum, tissue and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
