Job description

Position Summary

This position will assist in the install, repair, or replace low and steep sloped roofing systems including tile, slate, shingle and metal roofing systems including hot, cold and specialty roofing systems. Assist in the install, repair, replace or troubleshoot all types of flashing systems. Assist in evaluates and solves leakage, drainage, damp-proofing and waterproofing problems using conventional and non-destructive evaluation techniques including epoxy injections. Assist on cleaning, installing, repairing or replacing gutters, downspouts and sumps. Assist in operation of manual and power roofing equipment such as shears, de-roofers, roofing saws, hot bitumen mopping equipment, stoning and de-stoning equipment, grinders, caulking gun, hot kettles, fume recovery system and power hoists. Assist in general rigging as required. Erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, boom trucks, and similar devices. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications. Requisition equipment, materials, and parts. Estimate time and materials to be used on the job. Stock, maintain, and may operate a University service vehicle.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Completion of a high school education and Two years experience as a Trades Helper I or equivalent in the associated trade of roofing; or an Associates degree in a field related to the structural/roofing trade; or an equivalent combination of education, technical training and experience; working knowledge of methods in the associated trade roofing; knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of basic skilled trades work; possession of a valid vehicle operator's license; must drive a University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification; must furnish own tools; frequent lifting over 75 pounds.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in roofing; experience with low and steep sloped roofing systems including tile, slate, shingle and metal roofing systems including hot, cold and specialty roofing systems; experience flashing systems; experience evaluating and solving leaks; experience damp-proofing and waterproofing; experience with epoxy injections.

Work Hours

Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm and may require after-hours, weekend and holiday work.

Summary of Physical Demands

Lifting materials on job site.

Installation of materials on job site.

Carrying tools and materials to and from job site.

Summary of Health Risks

Wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort). Work in noisy (at or above 85 decibels) areas. Risks that have been identified by Environmental Health and Safety, such as exposure to lead, chemotherapy, formaldehyde, asbestos, etc.
