ERP Project Director
Serve as the primary operational lead in managing the technical and functional implementation of Workday for Smith College. Coordinate all aspects of the operational planning, scheduling, coordination of Smith resources and staff to achieve this technical and functional implementation throughout the project lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the technical and functional implementation of the new ERP (Workday) solution. Manage ERP implementation project plan, project details, deliverables, schedules, tasks, and assignments. Manage project budget, scope and schedule with Workday and implementation partner as part of core project team. Coordinate with ERP and IT Transformation teams and Smith and with partner companies.
Promote effective user experiences and work practices in line with the core values and principles of ITS, the IT Transformation initiative, and Smith College.
Work closely with partner resources at Workday and the implementation partner to ensure measurable progress, manage risks proactively, achieve effective integration of third party tools with Workday, and assess project outcomes against stated goals and success factors for the technical and functional implementation of HCM, Payroll, Financials and Student functionality. Model and support the adoption of key Smith principles of strategic value, configuration rather than customization, and effective integration throughout a user’s lifecycle. Work in partnership with IT leadership, ERP governance groups, ERP implementations and members of the Smith community to achieve a successful Workday implementation that will be sustainable in years following the initial production go-live.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree and 5-7 years’ relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Workday and Banner helpful but not required. Experience in Higher Education environment preferred but not required.
Skills: Superior project management and collaboration skills within complex technology projects and initiatives. Demonstrated experience managing scope and time and materials budget for complex, highly visible projects. Demonstrated track record focusing on user experience and effective service outcomes. Demonstrated ability to listen effectively, calibrate appropriately, and identify critical paths quickly.
Excellent skills in project management, spreadsheet and word processing tools. Strong aptitude for learning new tools and technologies. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to bring focus in situations of complexity and ambiguity, identify critical paths for desired outcomes, and communicate project risks. Ability to talk about complex technical concepts and functionalities with non-technical audiences. Ability to listen effectively in a variety of project contexts, assess project team dynamics, and devise strategies to address project team needs. Demonstrated experience in business process analysis. Coaching, teaching, and/or training skills necessary to help colleagues move from old ways of doing tasks to newer approaches with new tools. Ability to function effectively as part of a distributed team, working effectively as an individual contributor, as a team member, and as a manager of a complex project and project resources.
This is a three year, limited term position.
