The position within the Physics Department is to support electronics development for research projects initiated by faculty, especially on the upgrade of the CMS experiment for the High Luminosity LHC.

Responsibilities include:
- Design, prototype, and test electronic equipment.
- Overseeing production of small batch custom electronics including process definition, vendor interaction, and workflow organization.
- Present progress and findings within research group.
- Work with physicists and engineers at collaborating institutions.
- Assist in training of students on above topics.
- Recommend equipment and techniques to solve research problems.


Academic Master's degree or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant In Research.

The candidate should be able to work independently, communicate effectively, and be able to interface effectively with industry and groups outside the department.

The position offers the possibility of a promotion track to Senior Research Associate.


A minimum of Bachelor's level in electrical engineering or related field is preferred.

Preferred experience includes:
- Engineering digital electronics
- PCB layout
- Programming including FPGA programming
- Digital signal processing
- High bandwidth signal transmission

A candidate with experience in a research or R&D setting is also preferred.

Anticipated Salary Range

Salary will be commensurate with the experience of the qualified candidate. FSU offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance and a 403b retirement plan.
