Position Information: This position is responsible for assisting the Transportation Services Facilities Manager in the overall upkeep, maintenance, and cleaning of the campus parking lots, information kiosks, Parking and Fleet facilities, UCR Mobility Hub and transit bus stops, UCR Palm Desert parking lots and the UCOP IntelliCenter parking lots along with any equipment by performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties. Incumbents will also assist in supervising and directing the work of student workers employed by the department in maintenance operations. The Zone Mechanic will assist with the preservation and aesthetic beauty of the buildings and grounds. Primarily, the position handles the skilled maintenance of all the transportation based facilities including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and electrical, through routine preventative maintenance and emergency work needs. This position will travel to Palm Desert and other local locations monthly to provide maintenance needs at those locations.

Maintains electronic systems; access/dispensing systems, metering, and other TAPS equipment. Performs a wide variety of skilled technical work related to the troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and installation of electronic equipment and related control systems. Troubleshoots existing systems; performs preventive maintenance on line and low voltage systems. Utilizes software in a PC-based or networked environment to monitor and control various systems. Perform miscellaneous building maintenance and repair job duties, such as mounting white boards, bulletin boards, coat hooks, keyboard trays, lights and lighting ballasts, or other office and building equipment, bicycle racks, parking lot devices and fixtures. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: Four years of responsible experience in one or more of the following: performance of skilled installation, repair, diagnostics, programming, or troubleshooting of electronics devices; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated experience in electronics field that includes installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and modification of electronic systems and related electrical components and sub-systems.

Demonstrated experience in the development, evaluation, testing and maintenance of electronic based equipment and access control systems.

Experience installing, maintaining performing diagnostic tests, debugging, and adapting digital, electronic and analog equipment such as closed circuit video system and telecommunication equipment.

Knowledgeable and skilled in the safe use and maintenance of various hand and power tools, carpentry shop equipment and associated safety practices to perform carpentry, plumbing, painting, cleaning, electrical troubleshooting and repairs and other duties.

Knowledge of common safety procedures, regulations, and applicable codes.

Skill in estimating time, methods and materials needed to perform assigned tasks.

Ability to recognize and report instances of asbestos, mold, and lead paint. Ability to communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards.

Ability to comprehend documents such as complex technical procedures, instructions, manuals, specifications, and diagrams.

Ability to read and understand a variety of documents, specifications, plans and drawings.

Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations, such as addition and subtraction of whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.

Proficiency with computer and web-based applications.

Physically able to work from ladders, man-lifts, and boom trucks at varying heights.

Ability to perform repetitive fine-finger manipulation, lifting, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling and reaching.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to include loading, carrying, moving and/or manipulating various building materials such as lumber, metal, fixtures, flooring, or other materials.

Ability to work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat.

Ability to work around and be exposed to unpleasant sights and smells, dangerous and/or hazardous substances.

Ability to drive larger vehicles such as vans or pick-up trucks.

Ability to follow safety precautions and utilize appropriate safety devices, equipment and gear.

Ability to work independently and set priorities that meet deadlines and deliver services on time, and within University policy while keeping departmental goals and objectives in mind.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex problems under pressure.

Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment, post offer physical exam and background check.

Must possess or obtain a Valid California Drivers License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working on a university campus.

Additional education, directly related experience or certification in the electronics maintenance field.
