Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of U.Va.'s buildings, infrastructure and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Utilities Supervisor who acts as a first line supervisor providing leadership for the plumbing/pipefitting and welding team in Utilities Distribution. The incumbent supports the goals of sustainability, reliability, and service as they relate to infrastructure including almost 6.5 miles of steam tunnels and more than 150 miles of steam, heating hot water, condensate, chilled water, storm and sanitary sewer, and domestic water and associated pumps, converters, heat exchanges, water storage tanks, and related equipment. The Utilities Supervisor supervises maintenance and repair and ensures quality services are provided at reasonable costs.

A high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of four years of experience in piping installations is required. A minimum of two years' experience in leadership role or supervision of teams is essential. A valid license in a building trade such as plumbing, pipefitting, mechanical, welding, or equivalent certification is required. A degree in a building trade, engineering, or science may be considered in lieu of a license or certification. A journeyman plumbing license is highly preferred. A valid Driver's license with a positive points balance is also required. Ability to layout, assemble and install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, MTHW, heating, cooling, and industrial production and processing systems is essential, along with advanced understanding of piping distribution systems. Ability to operate equipment, such as dump trucks, backhoe, and sewer cleaning machine is required. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and interact with people of diverse backgrounds is essential, This position must be able to work nights and weekends on an as needed basis during emergencies and to work an adjusted schedule as needed to meet deadlines.
