Job Summary

The Skidmore College Counseling Center is seeking a part-time psychiatric consultant beginning in the Fall Semester of 2018. This position requires board certification in psychiatry or proof of education/specialization in psychiatric practice; proof of current New York State licensure as a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner; malpractice insurance; and current prescription privileges in New York State.

The position is part-time and includes six hours/week of direct patient care and one hour/week of clinical consultation, with some potential flexibility in scheduling hours semester to semester. We are seeking a compassionate and energetic provider with experience in treating a diverse population of traditional college-aged young adults.

The psychiatric consultant works closely with the clinical team at the Counseling Center to coordinate care for students receiving ongoing psychotherapy at the Counseling Center. The psychiatric consultant participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team planning, provides psycho-pharmacological evaluation and treatment, and provides consultation as needed to insure quality care.

The Counseling Center provides a range of services to the Skidmore campus, including crisis intervention, short-term individual and group psychotherapy, after-hours on call and consultation and outreach. Students present with a range of developmental and psychiatric issues, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse. We are committed to providing our students with prompt, effective and sensitive clinical care. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capacity to work as part of a team and a commitment to professional development are required for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

M.D., D.O, NP, or PA; board certification in psychiatry or proof of education/specialization in psychiatric practice; proof of current NYS licensure and medical liability insurance; and current NYS prescription privileges.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Professional experience working with college students and thorough knowledge of psychopharmacological evaluation and intervention with demonstrated capacity to work as part of a treatment team.
