Admission Counselor

Job description

We currently have two positions available and will hire at the Admission Counselor, Assistant or Associate Director level, depending on candidate experience. See required and preferred qualifications for each level below. In addition to the general duties listed above, Admission Counselors / Assistant or Associate Directors typically serve on a specific committee or team within our office: Visit; Diversity and College Access; Transfer; or Communication. For these two positions we are seeking candidates who will specifically be a good fit for the Communication team. The Communication team supports the mission and goals of the enrollment division by ensuring consistent and relevant messaging to educate, excite and empower prospective and current members of the DU community through creative and innovative strategies. The Communication team is responsible for creating and/or reviewing all communication touchpoints across a variety of platforms (website, social media, video, print, electronic, digital marketing, text messages, etc.) and works collaboratively to envision and execute campaigns in all these areas.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Communication Skills

  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to give professional presentations sharing the features, outcomes and value of DU.
  • Prompt responses to inquiries from prospective students.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups having competing interests and priorities within the University and community.
  • Ability to convey a compelling position, to communicate the value and outcomes of a University of Denver education.
  • Ability to describe the areas of study and curriculum offered at DU as well as the benefits each offer.
  • Ability to discern the basic needs of prospective students and customize responses accordingly.

Analytical and reasoning skills

  • Ability to understand and make use of enrollment data and reports for the assigned territory including conversion, accept and yield rates.
  • Ability to evaluate student credentials and experiences.
  • Basic ability to understand industry and data trends for a territory/program and translate into measurable action plans.

Flexibility and Organization

  • Daily schedule is affected by families visiting, calling, and e-mailing and we must, at times, put daily tasks on hold to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple events and activities while maintaining focus on details and outcomes with a strong work ethic.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated independent thinking and ability to work well within a team with a high level of professionalism.
  • Counselors expected to act independently to resolve or enhance issues, programs, or initiatives with guidance from supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Admission Counselor

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One to two years of work related to admission, recruiting, college access, advising, sales or marketing, ideally in a higher education setting.
  • Valid driver's license.

Assistant Director

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two to three years of work related to admission, recruiting, college access, student advising, sales or marketing, ideally in a higher education setting.
  • Valid driver's license.

Associate Director

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five or more years of work related to admission, recruiting, college access, student advising, sales or marketing, ideally in a higher education setting.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Admission Counselor and Assistant Director

  • Experience in content creation across a variety of platforms, video production and strategic communication planning.
  • Experience and success working with traditionally underrepresented populations through the college access and/or admission process.
  • Proficiency or fluency in a second language.

Associate Director

  • Experience in content creation across a variety of platforms (social media and website specifically), video production, and strategic communication planning.
  • Experience and success working with traditionally underrepresented populations through the college access and/or admission process.
  • Proficiency or fluency in Spanish.
  • Familiarity with Slate Technolutions.
