Director of Assessment and Educational Effectiveness

VISION

Develop and employ assessment strategies and tools to support creation of an inspiring learning environment that prepares our students to be prepared for successful real-world practice.

PURPOSE

Reporting to the Vice President, Academic Affairs (VPAA), the Director of Assessment and Educational Effectiveness is responsible for assisting faculty and other associates in developing and sustaining a culture of assessment that facilitates achievement of student learning outcomes at Life West Chiropractic College (LCCW). Incumbent will provide one-on-one and group guidance, tools, resources and support to enhance instructional effectiveness and student learning. Will encourage innovation, value scholarly discourse and strive to create a community of educators whose focus is on excellence in the learning, teaching and assessment processes. Will work closely with the Director of Institutional Research (DIR) to ensure system-wide academic assessment (student and programmatic) occurs in a systematic manner.   Provide leadership in the continued development and refinement of the college’s annual planning (in support of the strategic plan) and the assessment planning processes.   

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  1. Creates and implements a systematic plan for ensuring that the LCCW community improves its competence in assessment activities, most notably in the use of evidence-based decision making leading to positive change.
  2. Working with academic and clinical administrators, coordinate assessment activities and systems for the college. 
  3. Assists departments in routine course and instructional observations, providing feedback to department chairs and the VPAA where a lack of alignment is observed. These observations include syllabi review, signature assessments and online companion use.Coordinates and updates assessment content across multiple programs.
  4. Develop uniform assessment instruments across the college including; design, delivery, data collection and feedback for improvement.
  5. Work with EVP and institutional research ( participating as part of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning OIEP) to assure that data collected “loops” back and informs academic, clinical, and all college processes, procedures and planning.  Works closely with the DIR to manage data and training on the College’s Learning Outcome Management System and reports on attainment or gaps of outcomes by analysis of data and assessments.
  6. Work with college administration and faculty in the development and measure of programmatic and institutional outcomes.
  7. Oversee the Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching, and Technology (CELTT)
  8. Supervises Educational Technology Coordinator
  9. Supervises CELTT staff
  10. Works with Faculty and departments in the development and measure of department and course outcomes.
  11. Works with department chairs and others to help create and support areas of expertise across campus related to assessment of studentlearning outcomes. With department chair and VPAA, determines intervention plans for instructor or courses that may require assistance.
  12. Train Faculty in effective student assessment including: understanding of student assessment, assessment tools/instruments, and pedagogies.
  13. Train faculty in the use of data to improve student learning.

 

Oversee the Student Success Program (Student Success Center)

  1. Assess current program
  2. Develop program as a functioning “learning community” for the pre-clinical program
  3. Gather data on ongoing basis and report program outcomes internally and externally
  4. Supervises Academic Advisors and Counselors
  5. Supervises tutors and oversees tutoring program
  1. Assist in the regular reporting of the college, monthly to the President and as required to outside agencies.
  2. Maintain catalog of assessment tools/instruments and the associated data.
  3. Participate in self-studies and other accreditation report writing and development.
  4. Participation in educational conference/s.
  5. Assists the VPAA in his/her duties as needed and assigned                 

    ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1.       Report monthly on department activities
  2.       Assist VPAA with development and management of department budget

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Education, Training and/or Experience

  1. Master’s Degree in Education (MSEd), Doctorate preferred
  2. Minimum of five years of relevant experience focusing on higher education and accreditation.
  3. Extensive knowledge of creating, implementing and measuring student learning outcomes at the institutional,       programmatic and course levels.
  4. Extensive knowledge of adult learning theory, pedagogical approaches and assessment processes.
  5. Understanding of higher education and regulatory issues.
  6. Knowledge of regional accrediting standards, especially as they apply to assessment and continuous improvement.
  7. Knowledgeable with computers, instructional technologies and database schemas, especially as relates to  outcome and assessment hierarchies.

  1.       DC degree or experience with chiropractic preferred

           PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1.       Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. 
  2.       Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. 
  3.       Must be able to lift 25 lbs., retrieving and placing materials on high shelves and on floor-level shelves; standing, walking, carrying, grasping, hearing, seeing, sitting, kneeling, climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and reaching. 
  4.       Position requires some travel for participation in conferences, meetings, and training.

    WORKING CONDITIONS 

  5. Work performed in a general office environment.
