Assistant Vice President of Communication

Lawrence University’s Assistant Vice President of Communication serves as the institution’s chief brand manager, storyteller, and spokesperson. Managing, motivating, and mobilizing a team of talented and ambitious writers, designers, media specialists and videographers, the AVP will marshal the university’s human, digital, and print resources to show and tell the Lawrence story in compelling and broad-reaching ways, raising Lawrence’s visibility and reputation as a college and music conservatory of international renown. The AVP will also ensure that the university’s diverse community of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents are informed about and engaged with our important work together.

The AVP leads the Office of Communication, serves on the president’s cabinet as a key strategic partner, and reports to the Vice President of Enrollment and Communication.

Goals for the Assistant Vice President of Communication

  1. Develop, execute and continuously improve a comprehensive, integrated marketing and communication plan to raise Lawrence’s visibility and enhance its reputation
  2. Deepen affinity for Lawrence among current and prospective members—as well as friends and supporters—of the university community, including groups historically underserved by higher education
  3. Instill and inspire a culture of thoughtful and proactive internal communication
  4. Strengthen relationships with local, regional, national and international media

  • Five to ten years of progressively responsible marketing/communications/public relations experience, preferably with supervisory experience
