Position Summary: The associate provost for global affairs is the chief operating officer and executive director of UNC Global and its constituent units, including Global Development (which also reports to University Development); Global Relations; Global Unified Business Cluster; the Center for Global Initiatives; and the Office for International Student and Scholar Services. The position reports to the vice provost for global affairs and is part of the leadership team of the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. The associate provost has direct responsibility for the coordination, management, and success of reporting units within UNC Global. The position also serves as the main liaison with other major units within the FedEx Global Education Center, as well as other global units across campus as needed. The position provides additional leadership and support for key programmatic efforts and institutional initiatives as assigned by the vice provost for global affairs. The associate provost regularly interacts with alumni and major donors to advance the global fundraising priorities for the campus. He or she also helps to identify, assess, manage, and lead Carolina's strategic global partnerships.

Education Requirements: Master's Degree required.

Qualification and Experience: Substantial experience (10 years) leading and managing major international efforts and programs in a major research university setting is required. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding, personal alignment, and enthusiasm for the global mission of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Breadth and depth of relevant experience, strong business judgement and decision-making skills, the skills to interact and work with colleagues in a transparent manner, and the ability to lead and manage staff are essential to success in this position. Specific experiences and qualifications the associate provost should possess include: - Previous senior-level international programming experience, preferably in a major research university setting; - Skills in integrating efforts across programs and building organizational structure to deliver outstanding outcomes for students and faculty; - Financial and HR background and management responsibility; - Building and developing relationships with external partners, including institutional, corporate, and foundation entities, as well as major donors; - Ability to build rapport and work collaboratively with senior university leaders and school administrators; - An innovative, creative approach to delivering operational and programmatic priorities in support of Carolina's global vision; - A collaborative leadership style that balances personal engagement with accountability; - Ability to motivate staff and alumni volunteers, with attention to both developing strategy and building culture; - Ability to build, manage, and support a high-performing staff team; - Experience representing a major research university to outside constituents; - Experience living or working abroad; - Excellent writing and presentation skills; - Diplomatic skills, professionalism, and integrity; and - Personal energy and enthusiasm.
