Occupational Summary

Apply project management knowledge, technical and interpersonal skills, and project management tools and techniques to meet requirements of medium to large projects that are coordinated activities of more than one functional group and/or operational unit.

Work Performed

Implement standard project management processes, tools and methodology by contributing to the development and maintenance of standard processes, and standard project templates, tools, and guidelines to support the application of the standard project management methodology.

Conduct project-learning reviews; identify and share best practice across the School as indicated. Analyze data to identify adverse trends and/or opportunities for continuous improvement.

Provide project consultation services to define work scope, required resources, and targeted deliverables; draft project proposals/plans according to project management methodology and input from SOM leadership and key stakeholders as requested by the Director, Project Management Office. Support identification of project team members and help coordinate team member assignments on behalf of SOM Dean's Office, i.e., communications, faculty, and staff members.

Plan, lead and facilitate regular cross-functional and/or multi-unit project team meetings ensuring the team is on task and meeting objectives as requested by the Director, Project Management Office.

Develop communication plans with the project team and SOM Dean's Office, as required. Review progress with the project team on a regular basis to ensure that project deliverables are on time and within budget; proactively identify changes in work scope and discuss with SOM Dean's Office, ensuring appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external stakeholders to reassess, renegotiate and amend project scope, schedule, deliverables, resource needs, budget, etc.

Proactively assess and analyze with the team and School leadership, any risks, and issues that may compromise project team performance and results and develop plans to remove or mitigate them.

Maintain risk and issue logs. Monitor schedules and risk management plans, providing warnings of serious deviations or variations that may compromise project results.

Work with functional managers to resolve schedule and resource conflicts. Escalate project issues when needed.

Proactively identify changes in work scope and under the direction of Director, Project Management Office, ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external clients to reassess, renegotiate and amend the scope of work responsibilities, proposals, contracts, and budgets.

Assist with the collection of clear, consistent, standard data for each project in the portfolio to support a regular portfolio report; provide ongoing status updates to SOM Dean's Office in a standard format.

Generate and issue regular internal and external project reports for project leaders/teams.

Education

Bachelor's degree. Additional training in Project Management coursework or certification in Project Management is desired.

Experience

Four years of progressively responsible experience in project management, including complex projects involving multiple functional groups. Experience in medical education/publishing, clinical research, or medical product development is desired. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
