This position will complement the current advising provided by faculty in SCIS. Provide additional advising to incoming undergraduate students and assist the School in recruitment and career placement activities. Serve as a point of contact for all SCIS students in case of commonly asked questions, procedural discussions and other. Work is performed under the supervision of the Dean of the School of Communications and Information Systems (with the assistance of department heads and Associate Dean). This position is funded through a grant. Continuation of this position is dependent upon extension of grant funding.
- Advising/Retention Efforts: Advise prospective students regarding programs, requirements for admission and necessary prerequisites. Responsible for advising freshman, sophomore, and transfer students in coordination with faculty advisors. Communicate with department heads and the Dean's office issues and problems occurring. Responsible for conducting special programs for student retention for SCIS. Responsible for developing and maintaining a database on all incoming students to track their academic performances. Responsible for monitoring retention and developing reports to the SCIS Administration. The diversity data should be included in the reports. Point of contact in case of emergency or absence of advisor. Work with Colonial Hub, Academic Affairs, Career Center to help with commonly asked questions. Establishes initial communication and provides ongoing advisement for all students related to progression and retention. In consultation with departments, use data related to enrollment and progression to develop plans for proposed semester course offerings. In collaboration with SCIS academic departments, determines semester course scheduling and works with them by required deadlines. Facilitates changes in student enrollment status from undergraduate to graduate programs as necessary. Develop expertise in our Student Success Collaborative CRM tool, CAMPUS, including but not limited to data analytics, reporting, and campaigns. Conduct regular analysis and provide recommendations on program performance in the areas of persistence, graduation, workflow efficacy, customer satisfaction, demographics, and other key retention drivers.
- Recruiting: Support school activities for prospective students and their families: responsible for attending college days, college nights, college fairs, and various other recruiting programs that are deemed necessary in order to recruit students to the University. Assist in developing various marketing endeavors to market the programs to all audiences. Assist in developing websites for new initiatives and programs as well as maintaining the existing websites for the School of Communications and Information Systems. Responsible for all freshman and transfer orientation activities and functions. Works with the admissions counselor and refers students to the appropriate admissions counselor, financial aid or director for follow up as necessary. Participates in recruitment efforts as needed. Point of contact for all undecided and transfer students.
- Program Management/Administration: Database management for SCIS/D&I as determined. Support program and accreditation requirements; assist in collecting data relative to the program enrollment, attrition and graduation rates, projected courses and submission of weekly report to the Dean and department heads.
- All other duties as assigned. On occasion may need to drive on behalf of the University.
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Management or Communications field is required.
- Masters and/or Ph.D. is preferred.
- Recruitment and student advising experience is required.
- Knowledge of academic environments. Experience with academic advising or working in higher education is preferred.
- MS Word, Excel, and Power Point skills are required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and attention to detail.
- Proficient knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A willingness to develop computer skills, adjust to other updated technology and grow academically as required.
- Strong technology, social media and computer skills are required.
- Strong professional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; problem solving skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work without supervision; ability to make independent judgments.
- Good customer relations skills needed to interact closely with staff, faculty and students, deal with multiple constituencies and work with a diverse population.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings as required.
- Valid driver's license is required.
