Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
*Bachelor's degree required.
*Work some hours outside of the normal Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (evenings and weekends). MUST INDICATE “YES” ON APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
*Demonstrated skill in using computer software, specifically MS Office Suite- Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. (MUST INDICATE SPECIFIC SOFTWARE IN WHICH YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE ON THE APPLICATION OR RESUME.)
*Demonstrated ability to perform math sufficient to calculate GPA's, percentages, and basic statistics for summarizing data.
*Professional work experience interpreting and explaining complex policies and procedures.
*Demonstrated experience presenting and speaking to groups of 5 or more.
*Demonstrated ability to write coherently and precisely.
*Demonstrated ability for attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
*Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, or related field.
*Graduate degree or hours towards a graduate degree.
*Graduate degree in the natural sciences, mathematics, engineering, or related field.
*Professional academic advising experience in higher education.
*Knowledge of Texas State academic policies and procedures.
*Demonstrated experience using Banner student information software.
*Demonstrated experience using Degree Works degree audit software.
*Evidence of professional accomplishments such as conference presentations, publications, committee leadership, performance commendation. or other related achievements.

Job Description
Responsible for providing undergraduate advising to majors and pre-majors in the College of Science and Engineering, primarily students majoring in the Department of Engineering Technology.

Job Duties
*Advise students on topics related to academic majors and provide assistance with academic progress.
*Assist in the career development process as it relates to degree choices and coursework.
*Coordinate, plan, and prepare for advising sessions.
*Inform students of university resources.
*Refer students to other campus departments as appropriate.
*Maintain confidential student files.
*Receive and assist in processing applications for graduation.
*Assist with the review and dissemination of undergraduate catalog/curriculum information.
*Assist with the continuous assessment of advising services.
*Disseminate policy and procedure information to students, departments and other university offices.
*Participate in university recruitment and retention efforts by participating in Bobcat Days, New Student Orientation and any other university function related to this effort.
*Prepare and deliver PowerPoint presentations at New Student Orientation and other college and university events.
*Track and advise students on probation/suspension within the College of Science and Engineering.
*Perform other duties as assigned.
