This is a full-time, one-year temporary FilmStudies/Cinema instructor position in the School of Visual, and Performing Arts. Under the direction of the Dean, the assignment for the full-service week will be to teach cinema courses (Survey of American and Survey of World Cinemas)offered by the department. The ideal candidate would also possess the background to teach (or has taught) courses in the survey of world cinemas and survey of American cinema, as well as participate in any other professional responsibilities as identified under 18.2.3 of the faculty agreement. The assignment will be primarily at the Rancho Campus, but sections at the Fontana or Chino campuses, or high school campuses, may be possible per contract and need.
This assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:
• Using Mac computers and related Mac software tools to instruct classes in cinema in accordance with the established course outlines of record. This includes organizing instruction towards achieving those objectives; participating in the selection of textbooks and other materials; instructing through lecture, hands-on laboratory, discussion, demonstrations, etc.; conferring and advising with students as appropriate; assigning grades; and providing a safe and positive classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
• Maintain professional and ethical standards.
• Maintains office hours and participates in department, division, and college meetings and governance.
• Conduct periodic professional development activities to maintain technological currency in all subject matter areas and in applying effective pedagogical instruction.
• Participate in the development, assessment, and evaluation process of student learning outcomes (SLOs).
• Participate in department and committee work, assisting with the writing of program and services review (PSR), Perkins federal grant, curriculum, certificates, associates of science degree, transfer degree, and program development, community outreach, facilitate student internship opportunities, tutorial center, and other duties necessary for the benefit of the students, the college, the community, and the profession.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Master's degree in film, cinema, drama/theatre arts or mass communication; OR
• Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's degree in media studies, English or communication; OR
• The equivalent.
• Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency as evidenced by:
• Experience teaching related courses at the community college level.
• Commitment to the discipline through involvement in professional organizations and activities.
• A general background in the development and history of Motion Pictures, the Multi-Cultural influences in contemporary cinema and an understanding of the aesthetics and semiotics of Cinematic Storytelling.
• An understanding of the influences of women in the motion picture industry, under-represented groups, and genre studies in motion picture history.
• Commitment to maintain currency in the discipline, including use of advanced technologies required in the discipline.
• Proactive professional growth and development, and the implementation of innovation and improvement of successful teaching.
• Ability to work effectively with computers and other forms of advanced technologies utilized in providing high quality instruction and the understanding and successful use of digital/computer learning technologies.
• Assist to facilitate and encourage student success by working to develop varied and innovative academic learning environments.
• Ability to effectively communicate professionally and clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with on-campus groups (including students, faculty, administrators and staff), as well as, off-campus community and education partners.
• It is desirable that faculty have additional abilities and interests in contributing to other professional pursuits at Chaffey College, such as: instructional innovation, second language ability, assisting with program and services review, professional development activities, student success initiatives and community outreach.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Based upon the minimum and/or desirable qualifications stated in this position announcement, the initial salary placement range (for 176 service days) is $63,000 (minimum qualifications) to $91,000 (doctorate). Placement is based on the regular full-time faculty salary schedule and is dependent upon verification of relevant experience and coursework from a regional or nationally accredited institution of higher learning.
