Instructor of English as a Second Language
Coe College seeks qualified applicants for a benefit-eligible, non-tenure track instructor faculty position with expertise in English as a Second Language for the 2018–2019 academic year. Beginning August 2018, the successful applicant will hold the following responsibilities: teach 6 to 8 courses or course-equivalents over the course of the 2018–2019 academic year; advise and support ESL students on academic and cultural issues; serve as a language resource for nonnative English-speaking undergraduates; proctor language testing; assist in program events; attend weekly program and monthly faculty meetings; and foster an atmosphere of internationalization on campus. We are currently accepting applications, and the position will be open until filled.
Our ESL courses focus not only on developing language skills but also connecting students to the campus and community. Typically during fall term, the successful applicant will be responsible for teaching and creating syllabi for four term-long courses in Grammar and Presentation, Listening, and Speaking. Typically during spring term, the applicant will be responsible for teaching and creating syllabi for two term-long courses in Grammar and a course in the applicant’s area of interest, as well as two half-term courses (equivalent of one course) in Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, or Grammar. ESL courses are usually comprised of 6 to 15 students.
M.A. in TESOL or related field. Candidates who can provide evidence of successful teaching and an interest in mentoring students will be strongly preferred. Experience living abroad is also desirable.
