The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The College of New Jersey seeks a self-motivated, dynamic individual to serve as Regional Recruiter for Maryland, the District of Columbia and northern Virginia territories. The Recruiter will be under contract from approximately September 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019, but the bulk of the work will take place between September-November and March-May. During those months, the Recruiter will be expected to travel on many weekday mornings/evenings (and occasional weekends) within their territories: attending college fairs and making individual day visits to top feeder high schools; developing relationships with high school counseling personnel; and disseminating information about the College’s academic programs, student services and admission standards to prospective students. The Recruiter will participate in any Admissions-sponsored event in their territory (i.e. school counselor reception), which may occur 1-2 times in any given recruitment cycle.

During both the travel-heavy "recruitment seasons" and the subsequent "non-travel" months (December-February and June), the Recruiter will respond to email communications from prospects, parents and school counselors. The Recruiter will maintain relationships with prospects they have met and develop relationships with those prospects that happen to live in their territories. To further school counselor connections, the Recruiter will participate in meetings and conferences of counseling organizations in their territories and will be encouraged to join professional organizations related to them.

The Recruiter will provide feedback on any significant interactions with prospective students from their territories, for potential inclusion in the student’s admission application. The Recruiter will work closely with Admissions to coordinate recruitment schedules. The successful Recruiter will also show initiative in developing their own territory and subsequent recruitment plan. The Recruiter will be required to attend a training session on the TCNJ campus prior to their first recruitment event. The Recruiter must have excellent public speaking skills and interact comfortably both in large groups and with individual families. Preference will be given to candidates living in the DC Metro area with experience in college admission and/or high school counseling. Bachelor’s Degree and a valid driver’s license are required.

The Recruiter is considered a supplemental employee at The College of New Jersey and is therefore not eligible for benefits. All mileage, tolls, and hotel expenses will be reimbursable. Wage is $18,200 for 10-month cycle. Expected start date September 1, 2018, with mandatory two-day training on the TCNJ campus during the last week of August. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a suitable candidate is selected. Final offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.

Resumes and cover letters should be e-mailed to Stephen Tomkiel at [email protected], or faxed to Stephen’s attention at 609-637-5174.
