At Hofstra, students get the best of both worlds. Our campus is a leafy oasis just a quick train ride away from New York City and all its cultural, recreational and professional opportunities. We offer small classes and personal attention, with the resources, technology and facilities of a large university. Students can choose from more than 160 undergraduate program options and 165 graduate program options in the liberal arts and sciences, education, health professions and human services, the Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs, the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication, the Maurice A. Deane School of Law, the Hofstra Northwell School of Graduate Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies, and the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Hofstra University is a dynamic community of more than 11,000 students from around the world who are dedicated to civic engagement, academic excellence and becoming leaders in their communities and their careers.

Hofstra Law School, located in Hempstead, NY, is seeking to hire a Clinical Professor to teach and supervise its Veterans Law Clinic.  Commenced in January 2017, and recently named the Robert W. Entenmann Veterans Law Clinic, the Clinic assists veterans with legal services related to physical and psychological challenges, including traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other injuries incurred during military service.  The Clinic helps veterans obtain health care benefits, appeal denials of disability compensation claims, and advocate for increased compensation.

The Clinical Professor will be responsible for all aspects of running the Clinic, including course planning and teaching, supervision and mentoring of law students in representing veterans, clinic administration, and community education and outreach.  If so desired, the Clinical Professor can also teach non-clinical course offerings and can serve on all faculty governance committees.  Hofstra’s Clinical Professors can become eligible for presumptively renewable five-year contracts after an initial contract of two years and two additional two-year reappointments and assuming all standards of review have been met.  Our Clinical Faculty benefit from generous support for scholarship and pedagogical innovation, as well as being part of an active and engaged NYC-area clinical community.  All Clinical Professors are warmly encouraged to participate in faculty workshops, conferences, and other aspects of academic life at the Law School, including the monthly meetings of an energetic and supportive clinical faculty.

The Hofstra Law Clinic was established in 1973 and is an integral part of the Law School.  The Law School has clinical offerings in the following areas:  Asylum, Deportation Defense, Community and Economic Development, Criminal Defense, Entrepreneurship and Intellectual Property, Immigration, Law Reform, Federal Tax, and Youth Advocacy.  The Robert W. Entenmann Veterans Law Clinic will be an integral component of the School’s vibrant health law program and renowned Gitenstein Institute for Health Law and Policy.

Clinical teaching experience is desirable, though not required.  Salary and title are commensurate with experience.

To apply:  Please submit a letter of interest with a CV, and a list of references via email only to Yvonne Atkinson at [email protected].  The deadline for submission is July 15, 2018.

Hofstra University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to fostering diversity in its faculty, administrative staff and student body, and encourages applications from the entire spectrum of a diverse community.
