ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides eligible students textbooks, media, and classroom materials in an alternative, accessible format.
Create and maintain records in regards to students’ requests, actions taken to obtain alternative, accessible formats, and dissemination of alternative media to the students.
 
Provide assessments for individual students regarding their need for assistive technology and alternative media through an interactive process to determine appropriate accommodations and support services.
 
Develop and provide trainings in assistive technology, Universal Design, working with students with disabilities, and web accessibility, and alternative accessible media formatting for the campus community.
 
Conduct on-going needs assessments and evaluations to determine the effectiveness of technology and trainings while making recommendations for future technology and trainings that will enhance student access.
 
•Develop and maintain the department website and shared databases.
 
Facilitate students in resolving disability related issues that may be a barrier and refer student to appropriate campus and community support services, if outside the scope of the department.
 
Consult with students, administration, faculty, and staff, as needed, in regards to the implementation of disability related accommodations.

WORK SCHEDULE: M-F, 8am-5pm

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Supervise part time student staff assisting with alternative formatting and assistive technology implementation. This position assumes primary responsibility during the summer terms, June and July, for management of requests for interpreting and/or transcription services and captioning services.

REQUIRED QUALS: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, Student Services, Information Services or closely related field.

Experience: Two-years experience working with different types of disabilities and operationalizing into reasonable accommodations, experience with alternative formatting and/or accessible technology.

PREFERRED QUALS: Preferred Education: Master’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or closely related field.

Preferred Experience: Experience working with students with disabilities, specifically with visual impairment, previous experience with text conversion in an academic setting, ability to manage multiple projects at the same time, knowledge current trends of assistive technology, supervision of student employees, knowledge of ADA/ADAA and Section 504 & Section 508.
