Job Summary


The AARP Job Success Coach performs a variety of assessment and career advising duties for job candidates in the Back to Work 50+ Women's Economic Stability Initiative at Miami Dade College. The position is responsible for recruiting and coaching unemployed and underemployed individuals age 50 and over, as well as engaging with employers to identify opportunities with program participants.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Manages and oversees client caseload for Back to Work 50+ participants in conjunction with other team members
  • Collaborates with job candidates to discover their career interests and identifies career and educational goals and strategies
  • Provides guidance to job candidates regarding job history, education, interests and abilities affecting client's employability
  • Guides candidates in preparing resumes, developing networking and employment strategies, honing interview skills and creating professional portfolios
  • Develops and maintains working knowledge of assessment tools and procedures; performs assessment interpretation to guide employment search and training needs
  • Collaborates with career coordinators, faculty and academic advisors to assist participants in selecting academic majors
  • Utilizes and contributes to the maintenance of an up to date inventory of career resources
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with faculty, staff, local employers and government and private agencies
  • Assists with ongoing strategic planning for the Division; maintains related files, records and databases
  • Participates in College committee meetings as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of work experience in higher education
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of program coordination and student and career development services
  • Knowledge and experience in key economic sectors of the local labor market
  • Knowledge of student development policies and procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications
  • Possess excellent leadership and problem solving skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Promotes and maintains effective employee and public relations
  • Ability to motivate and appropriately advise students in identifying and attaining educational and career goals
  • Ability to set priorities; maintain self-direction and exhibit high quality customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and recognize situations in which confidentiality is required
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, other departments, and staff
