Posting Summary:
The Department of Public Health Sciences at the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia is currently seeking a motivated public health professional to act as a research specialist to support the execution of community-based research projects. Specific tasks would include coordinating and implementing intervention activities, research subject management, data management and analysis, curriculum development and adaptation, and being a resource for routine and non-routine laboratory activities.

This position is based in UVA's satellite office in Christiansburg, VA, and will require in-state travel. Occasional overnight travel will be required. The position will be available from May 25, 2018, through May 24, 2019. This is a restricted position contingent on grant funding.

A Bachelor's degree in nutrition, public health, health sciences, or related field is required by appointment start date; Master's degree preferred. One year relevant work experience is required. Experience gained as a student will be considered. Experience with community-based lifestyle behavioral trials and grant funded projects are preferred. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to follow instructions is a must. Excellent communication skills, including with diverse audiences for recruitment and participant management efforts is required. The ability to understand laboratory processes and knowledge of general laboratory procedures, including interview-administered survey procedures, is required. Knowledge of evidence-based guidelines for nutrition and physical activity is also required. Proficiency with computer software, including Word, Power Point and Excel is expected. Proficiency with SPSS and conducting simple statistical analyses is preferred.
