Duties: The laboratory of John B. Wojcik, MD PhD within in the Department of Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a laboratory Research Specialist A/B. The lab is focused on developing proteomic approaches to understand mechanisms of cancer, with an emphasis on sarcomas. Current research looks at the ways in which alterations in epigenetic regulators help to drive these malignancies.

The Research Specialist A: Under supervision will aid in the isolation preparation of proteomics samples from human tissue specimens, as well as in tissue culture models of these tumors. He/She will be included as an author in any research in which s/he participates, and will have the opportunity to present work to local, regional or national audiences.

The Research Specialist B position will undertake the duties outlined for the Research Specialist A position but will have experience with mass spectrometry and be able to independently work and have greater lab experience.

Qualifications: Research Specialist A: Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences or biochemistry and 0-1 years or more of prior laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Laboratory experience should include the fundamental techniques in molecular biology outlined above, as well as experience with cell culture.

Research Specialist B: Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences or biochemistry and 1-3years or more of prior laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. A Master's degree is preferred. Experience in protein mass spectrometry is preferred along with independent problem solving through the application and adaptation of background knowledge to specific experimental designs.

Both positions: Laboratory experience should include the fundamental techniques in molecular biology outlined above, as well as experience with cell culture.
