Position Summary
The Coordinator of Men's & Women's Cross Country and Track and Field reports to the Associate Director of Athletics. The primary task is to oversee, organize, recruit and develop successful Cross Country and Track programs in concert with the academic mission of the university.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Head Coach of the men's and women's track and field program
  • Supervise men's and women's cross country programs
  • Hire, supervise and develop assistant coaches
  • Identify, evaluate and recruit quality student-athletes to succeed at SU for the cross country and track & field programs
  • Organize, plan and conduct safe team training, practice and conditioning. Oversee day to day activities.
  • Supervise all track & field and cross-country operations including, but not limited to; NCAA Paperwork, scheduling, travel plans, equipment, marketing, home meet management and budget management
  • Develop a schedule that includes representative and competitive contests
  • Adhere to all NCAA and conference rules and bylaws
  • Counsel student-athletes in a positive manner
  • Coordinate fundraising opportunities for the cross country and track programs, if appropriate
  • Develop positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as SU community
  • Represent the university to various constituents in a professional manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
    Evidence of positive attitude and the ability to get along well with others required, excellent speaking and writing skills necessary, as well as the ability to be a well-organized self-starter and ability to set priorities and advocate team concepts. Knowledge and ability to use equipment specific to the sport.
    Bachelor's Degree required.
    Minimum of 3-5 years track & field coaching experience, preferably at the college level.
    Physical Demand
    Must have the energy and enthusiasm and mobility to actively coach the sport. Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires frequent lifting, stooping, crouching and bending. Working conditions are indoor and outdoor.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Master's Degree preferred.
