Assistant Teaching Professor, Open Field, The Department of Sociology
The Department of Sociology (http://sociology.ucsd.edu) within the Division of Social Sciences at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We are inviting applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor, open field, to begin July 1, 2019.
This is a teaching-focused position with potential security of employment. The Lecturer with Security of Employment (Teaching Professor) series parallels the professor series, but with emphasis upon excellence in teaching and scholarly activity related to teaching. An individual hired into this position will be expected to provide outstanding undergraduate teaching in the context of a large research university, as well as to engage in professional activity and service related to the pedagogical missions of the department and university. This appointment confers membership in the Academic Senate, and, contingent upon promotion, security of employment that is analogous to tenure.
Candidates should demonstrate (1) outstanding professional achievement in the teaching of sociology, (2) superlative accomplishment in the classroom or other instructional settings, (3) university and public service, particularly related to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and (4) potential for educational leadership beyond the campus (e.g., through training other instructors, developing curriculum, or creating new or innovative instructional materials).
