Project Architect Manager

Reporting to the Director of Architecture, Project Architect/ Manager will manage the planning, design, and construction administration of projects for a wide range of building types from pre-construction to project close-out and commissioning, supporting the goals and objectives of the Project Delivery Group. Working closely with the larger team of architects and support staff within the department including construction, and with staff in, Facilities and Operations, the Project Architect/ Manager will contribute to the overall operation and service-oriented activities of the department, providing leadership in planning and design, advancing the capability and professionalism of the department and the role of Design Project Management, and to mentor student project managers towards higher levels of expertise. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Architecture/ Interior Architecture and Professional License required; minimum of six years of experience in design, construction and management including demonstrated Architectural team management and assignments with documented budget responsibility. Extensive experience in planning and design, project cost estimating, bidding and coordination of architectural design documents through all phases of projects. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred: * Experience in a healthcare setting. * Advanced degree. Required Skills & Abilities: * Knowledge of Auto CAD and BIM to interface effectively with all A/E consultants; Ability to create, modify and read drawings and to explain content of drawings to non-architects. * Hands-on knowledge of building codes, zoning codes and municipal permitting processes for major construction projects, interior renovations, site improvements. * Ability to develop and coordinate graphics for presentations to all constituents in the form of printed documents, projected or digitally transmitted images. * Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Project or other project scheduling software. * Must be proficient in use of planning software applications, including Excel, Access, Power point. * Must have a high degree of comfort and capability in working with people, both in and outside the university, and in representing the university appropriately in all aspects of the role. * Must be able to communicate effectively with many different types of people and personalities within the university community including faculty, senior administrators, students, neighbors, government agencies. * Must be a team player, able and willing to support others in the department and on campus working towards improvement of the campus environment and culture. Must demonstrate dedication to maintaining professional environment and relationships with colleagues and clients alike. * Must have strong design leadership abilities and be adept in leading design teams towards successful results, organizing and chairing effective meetings, and maintaining continuous communication as required within the department to ensure successful design and planning process and results on all projects. * Assist the Facilities Management team as needed in identifying equipment and facility needs as they relate to the functional use and aesthetic character of campus facilities. Assist with the design/bid documents for the replacement or upgrade of major component parts and systems within the University's physical plant. * Develop, coordinate and execute plans for occupancy once a project is complete. Coordinate with end users, contractors, movers and other support offices as needed to effectively and efficiently carry out these relocations.
