Systems Administrator, Applications  Requisition # 18000000OA 

 

The Systems Administrator position is highly technical in nature and supports applications that have an impact at the departmental and enterprise levels.  The position involves software installation and upgrades, systems problem resolution, systems security, and planning and recommendations for system upgrades.  System duties are performed on a variety of operating systems including, Microsoft’s server products, Linux, and a variety of cloud-based hosting environments.   The ideal candidate will have experience with Active Directory, System Center Configuration Manager, Azure, and Office 365.

Responsibilities include:

  • Enterprise System Implementation: Ensure the proper design of Enterprise Systems; Installing, configuring, and implementing new enterprise systems; Ensuring overall architecture of new systems integrates within the current environment; Providing direction and guidance for existing and emerging technologies along with participating in complex and mission-critical technical analysis.
  • Enterprise System Support: Maintaining and managing large systems, independently; Resolving high impact or urgent problem and incident management issues; Coordinating with partner IT to support departmental systems across campus; Fulfilling service requests for systems, networks, and/or databases under their responsibility; Providing support for cloud based platforms and cloud based services; Accountable for the performance of systems, and databases; Performing routine, complex, and emergency systems, networks, and database administration tasks to ensure and maximize service availability; Monitoring system performance and proposes software updates or parameter changes to enhance system performance; develops a plan for testing, implementing, and measuring the results of system performance; Updating ticket tracking database with pertinent information.
  • Project Management: Leading project teams to develop and implement new systems and databases; Leading projects, including planning, managing resources, and delivering final products; Responsible for overall work efforts in the development and implementation of new systems and databases; Directing and supervising project team members’ efforts; Researching and training on new systems and database technologies.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent related experience. Three years’ experience as a System Administrator is required. Experience in a higher education setting is required. Must have knowledge of enterprise application development and support procedures. Must have knowledge of cloud computing. Must have effective skills in research and analysis, project planning and implementation; strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, and vendors; effective customer service skills to engage customer, resolve issues with a sense of urgency, and communicate in a timely manner; excellent decision-making, time-management, and planning skills; customer-centric approach to problem-solving. Must have the ability to be a self-starter and motivated to move projects forward; ability to coach and mentor staff and develop the human capital of the organization; ability to manage competing priorities in a highly demanding environment. Occasional evenings and weekends are required.
