Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia Department of Student Health is seeking to hire a psychiatrist. This position is a 24-hour a week salaried position with partial benefits to work during the academic year (nine months - ongoing). The individual will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric diagnostic assessments, medication evaluations, treatment planning, and psychiatric management of patients seen through CAPS and other affiliated clinics. The individual will also work collaboratively with CAPS psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, care managers, and psychotherapists in rendering psychiatrically oriented treatment, crisis intervention and case management to UVa students.

A medical degree from accredited school of medicine or osteopathy is required, as is the completion of psychiatry residency. Three to four years of providing psychiatric services, including time spent during psychiatric residence and fellowship training, is required, with a preference for applicants with four to seven years of experience. In addition, the incumbent must be licensed or eligible to receive their license to practice medicine in the state of Virginia. An active Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number is also required. The ability to perform psychiatric mental health duties in accordance with established UVA Student Health policies and procedures and the American Psychiatric Association's Standards of Practice is required. A demonstrated competency in the areas of: psychiatric diagnostic evaluation, medication evaluation, ongoing medication follow-up prescription, crises management, case management, clinical consultation, collaborative co-treatment with multidisciplinary mental health clinicians and ethical decision-making is also required. The ability to ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements and provide the highest quality psychiatric care is provided to patients and their families is essential. The ability to develop and maintain partnerships with multidisciplinary mental health clinicians to achieve quality care is required. In addition, strong communication skills, both written and verbal; critical analysis skills; problem solving skills and prioritization/time management skills are required. The incumbent must also possess a working knowledge of Microsoft office.
