Overview

PPPL has a postdoctoral position open in the area of multiscale gyrokinetic physics study of turbulent edge transport using the XGC code. Research will involve running large-scale gyrokinetic particle simulations of plasma species together with Monte Carlo simulation of neutral particles in realistic diverted geometry on massively parallel computers, analyzing the simulation data for physics understanding, and comparing with experimental data. Research will also involve some analytic work and further development of XGC, in collaboration with physicists, applied mathematicians and computer scientists in the multi-institutional XGC team.

Responsibilities

Experience with tokamak geometry, turbulence physics, and/or tokamak edge physics will be beneficial.
