Job Information

Job Summary:

Professor Elisabeth Kempf seeks a Research Professional for a period of one to two years. Research Professionals work with faculty to collect data, maintain databases, conduct statistical analysis, and provide other support associated with faculty research. Professor Kempf's primary research interest is in empirical corporate finance. Her research has explored the incentives of firm managers and credit rating analysts, as well as learning effects among mutual fund managers. The ongoing research projects include collaborations with a coauthor at Cornell University.

Start date subject to negotiation; may be as early as July 2018.


  • Support ongoing research projects of faculty by compiling, manipulating, and analyzing data using various search engines and software packages.
  • Obtain and organize information for research from other academic institutions and practitioners.
  • Proofread and edit citations of funded research reports, working papers, and publications.
  • Maintain effective communication with all members of the faculty and outside institutions.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience or Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Courses in econometrics and statistics required.

  • At least one year of research experience required.
  • Relevant research experience preferred.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:
  • Strong quantitative background required.
  • Ability to train others required.
  • Knowledge of research techniques or methods required.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills required.
  • Excellent and professional verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational skills and attention to detail, required.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously are required.
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as with others, and to meet deadlines under pressure is required.
  • Ability to seek out, coordinate, and appropriately disseminate information required.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Long-term interest in pursuing research in economics or finance preferred.
  • Background in economics or finance preferred.
  • Familiarity with statistics software such as Stata and SAS preferred.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python and SQL preferred.
