Job description

Duties: Primary responsibility will include maintaining and updating a medical research database, the Integrated Neurodegenerative Disease Database (INDD). This includes web-application development in ASP.NET along with data management and database administration using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. Overseeing and coordinating efforts in data collection, data entry, reporting, sharing, and quality control of the medical research data within several research groups at the University of Pennsylvania and between collaborators of national clinical research consortia. Secondary responsibility will be to manage, receive, send, review, process, and harmonize clinical, phenotype, and genotype (GWAS) primary and secondary data from genotyping facilities and outside collaborators. A third responsibility will be to perform basic statistical and bioinformatics analyses of genotype and phenotype data to support the research of senior FTD Center staff and faculty. The fourth responsibility is to perform various IT-related projects as assigned.

Qualifications: BA/BS and 1-3 years' experience in a computational (e.g., Computer Science, Bioinformatics) or biological (e.g., Biology, Neuroscience, Genomics) field or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Web-based applications experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, and one of the web-development languages (i.e. PHP, JSP, ASP) and a working knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS). Previous experience of handling of next-generation sequencing and/or SNP genotyping data optional but preferred. Familiarity with clinical research or clinical trials a plus.

Must possess good organizational and time management skills, good written and verbal communications skills; ability to work independently and with others; be able to multi-task. Willingness to learn and keep current with technology and the rules and regulations involving clinical research a must.
